FAQs

What is applied theatre?

Applied theatre is the practice of theatre and drama in non-traditional theatre settings, with various communities to explore issues relevant to that community. It is a process-focused practice that can be educational, therapeutic and transformative.

Why would I need counselling?

People come to counselling for a variety of reasons, perhaps they have been feeling a lot of anxiety in their daily lives; or maybe they have been feeling so overwhelmed, they can't get out of bed; or they may even be really worried about a family member's drinking, or a friend's gambling, and just want some guidance. It takes a lot of courage to talk to a stranger, I recognise that, and am here to offer a safe space to unpack some of those big feelings.

Can you custom-design workshops for my organisation?

Yes! If you have a specific workshop in mind, or you aren't sure, and just want to see what I can offer, please feel free to email me and ask.

How do I know if I am an addict?

Do you have difficulty stopping a behaviour, in spite of the fact it's caused problems at home or at work? Do you find yourself lying to your family, hiding bottles, minimising the amount of time you've spent on your favourite computer game this week? Have you tried to stop and find it almost impossible? These are a good indication that there may be an addiction present. Addictions, however, are often the tip of the iceberg – they're the behaviour we can see. If you aren't sure, and you'd just like to come in and explore more, contact me today.

What do you mean by experiential?

Experiential work is more hands-on, with participants and clients getting up and experiencing the work in their body more. Sometimes this involves forms of role-play, sometimes creating sculptures and still images with their bodies. We carry a lot of information in our bodies, but often spend so much time in our heads that our heads and bodies disconnect. By working experientially, we are able to start bridging that gap, and often the work is more empowering, and more healing.

What is an art-based workshop?

I use, and am open to using, a variety of art forms across all the work I do. Sometimes my workshops and sessions may have some drama elements, sometimes I work with art materials such as paints, crayons, collage. Some of my workshops integrate sewing and fabric.
